After writing that last entry, I thought I could let this issue go, but I keep thinking about it! I'm just so irritated by it all D:
I'm not pressed about Junhyung having a girlfriend. Sure, there's some jealousy there, but I'm not jelly of Hara dating Junhyung. I'm jealous of their situation - that these two young, talented, good-looking, and famous idols are dating each other. Personally, I don't care that he's going out with someone and I don't know enough about Hara to judge if she's "right" for him or not. And anyway, since their debut, BEAST has made it pretty clear that Junhyung likes to play the field. Part of being in show business is getting the chicks, the fame, and the money. Even though I rather like the idea that BEAST still sleeps in those bunk beds, I'm pretty sure that it's a major drag for Junhyung. lol. He's young, famous, wealthy, and people tell him he's sexy all the time, so of course he'd want to get some tail. Hell, if I were him, I would flirt shamelessly with all those cute idols backstage too XD So, Junhyung being a guy and having guy needs doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the way he went about dating her...
If he were a solo artist, I wouldn't give a shit since the wrath of his fans would fall just on him. But he's not a solo artist and he should have thought more about those 5 other guys whose dreams he put in jeopardy by being so careless on those dates. Since their debut, BEAST has been meticulous about keeping their fans happy and staying away from controversy. After all, just one scandal can derail your entire career. The fact that Junhyung was so sloppy about concealing his dates with Hara indicates to me that he didn't give a shit that anyone was watching and IMHO that boils down to just plain arrogance on his part. That is what pisses me off about him dating Hara. His arrogance. Junhyhung is so full of himself that he doesn't give a fuck if the paps are watching and if the shitstorm of anger from the fans rains down on the other members too, then so be it. If he had done this after BEAST had been around for a few more years, it wouldn't have mattered as much because by then, the fans and non-fans alike would be able to separate Junhyung from BEAST as a whole. They have a lot of dedicated fans now, but it's only been two years! People seem to recognize their music, but the only members who have a presence in the media are Doojoon, Gikwang, and Yoseob. I feel like my boys Hyunseung and Dongwoon are still unknown to the public. Why couldn't Junhyung reign in his ego long enough to let Hyunseung and Dongwoon get more media exposure before he sprung this on the fans? He's not new to the industry. He knows how the game is played. There's a reason why no one in Big Bang, SNSD, Wonder Girls, 2PM, 2AM, etc. go on public dates. I'm sure they all date privately, but they know better than to flaunt that shit for the paparazzi to see! They know that the fans never react favorably to idols dating in public and I like to think that these respective idols are putting the good of their groups before their libidos. I mean did it never cross his mind that the fans would be upset and that he could be putting his group mates at risk for ridicule as well? That part of it is what really pisses me off!! His inability to think about the other guys in the group and his impatience to wait until the timing was right before he started dating publicly. Kara will be fine. They've been around longer than BEAST and their members have done things (jobs and such) that are independent of the group. I'm not worried about them, but I feel like my boys (not Junhyung. The hell with him) are the losers in all this. And where the hell were the managers! What the fuck do they get paid for?? What the hell CUBE. You need better personnel keeping things in check D:<
Like I mentioned before, fans leaving the fandom won't just hurt Junhyung, it's going to hurt all the boys. It makes me mad that he wasn't thinking about them and that he was only concerned with himself and his own happiness. Doesn't he remember all the shit they went through to get to where they are now? All the rejection and public disappointments? How could he be so willing to taint the careers of his group mates just so he could date some girl? I can't get over his conceit and his selfishness. I remember when BEAST debuted, he used to be so conscientious and careful about maintaining their image. I don't think I'm imagining this, but Junhyung and Doojoon always seemed to be monitoring what was said in their interviews. It's funny because Hyunseung is being super open about his 4D-ness these days, but the truth is that he's been like that since Day 1 :D In BEAST's early interviews, Junhyung is often standing and sitting next to him not because they're "Junseung" or anything. I think he was there on purpose to keep an eye on Hyunseung and to keep him in check. Today, when Hyunseung drifts off and spaces out, the fans take it in stride because we're used to it. It's a part of his personality ^^ So, whatever happened to that responsible Junhyung? The guy that seemed to be really interested in protecting BEAST's image? The change has been gradual, but it's like he's a different guy now and he has different priorities...
In my last entry I referred to Junhyung as being a fame whore. I don't know what it is, but the Junhyung in BEAST today doesn't seem like the same guy from two years ago. Something has changed and it's not just him being in love either. He just doesn't strike me as being quite as humble as he used to be. The other boys (Yoseob in particular) still give off this air of being grateful to the fans for helping them to get to where they are today. Sometimes, it breaks my heart to read Yoseob's tweets. He's seems overly concerned with B2UTY. Maybe it took that rumor about him having a girlfriend to remind him of how powerful the fans really are? I just don't get that same level of concern from Junhyung anymore. That humble vibe I used to get from Junhyung just doesn't radiate with me. He seems really cool and unaffected these days. At fansignings and other events, it's like he's just going through the motions, but would rather be somewhere else... I wonder if maybe his change in behavior has anything to do with him hanging out with those other idols. When he started hanging out with the chocoballs, I was happy for him. If I were an idol, I'd want to kick it with other young and famous idols too. Plus, since Junhyung looks like he's on track to produce music one day, I think it's great that he's widening his social network and getting all these contacts. The downside to all this though is this feeling I get that he's being a social climber. Heechul, Mithra, Hongki, and now his famous idol girlfriend, Goo Hara. He's climbing that social ladder with a vengeance. lol. But there's an arrogance and a disingenuousness about it all... I don't know a damned thing about Junhyung's relationships with these idols, but the other boys have famous friends too, it's just that their friendships seeem different somehow. Doojoon being bffs with Jokwon for exampe feels natural and real. It's probably because they have history and really are bffs in RL, but what's different is that they don't throw the fact that they're friends in the fans' faces. Same with Hyunseung. He could name drop GD, TOP, etc., but he doesn't. Even though it's not like Junhyung is name dropping or uploading a ton of selcas of him with his famous buddies, I just can't help but get this sense that he's trying too hard to be apart of their world. He wants to be in the big time too soon and it just rubs me the wrong way.
I really should stop reading the comments by the Kb2uties. As an international fan, I'm upset over Junhyung throwing his group mates under the bus, but the fans over there are more upset ;___; One b2uty commented that although she didn't care about Junhyung anymore, she still loved the other 5 members, so she would keep supporting BEAST. Thankfully, that seems to be the general consensus in the fandom now. Junhyung may have been a selfish ass, but he's not representative of the group as a whole. But man, I do wonder how his stans are taking this whole thing... On one of his dates with Hara, he was wearing a Givenchy t-shirt that a fan gave him. I ID'd it on style_b2st. The shirt was at least $300 - maybe close to $400 based on the conversion rate. Only a dedicated fan would drop that kind of cash on some guy she doesn't have a "real" relationship with. I imagine she can't be jumping with joy at the news of him dating... This isn't important, but I wonder if this will impact the number of fangifts he gets from now on. Not only that, but in some of those Dispatch paparazzi photos, Junhyung was in the driver's seat of a car. Was it his car?? Because I maintain that b2st fashion blog, I know how much their clothes cost, but the whole car thing ain't making me happy either. If Junhyung has the cash to buy his own car, then why are fans dropping in upwards of $500 for t-shirts and shoes for him? That doesn't just apply to Junhyung, but all the idols out there that are making bank. I often wonder about those new boy groups that have like 8 members. They'd probably be naked if it weren't for sponsors ^^ Not sponsors that provide upscale clothing from foreign brands, but homegrown Korean brands like Feltics, Colonize, and Pacumong.
I should stop here. I feel better after writing this stuff down ^____^ It's all been swirling around in my head and the anger I felt at Junhyung was eating away at me. I know idols are human and all that, but what I like about the BEAST fandom is that, for the most part, it's a happy and drama-free fandom. These 6 boys sort of rose from the ashes to emerge as one of Korea's better known idol groups. In just 2 short years, they turned antis into fans. Their story is hopeful and inspiring. I imagined that the 6 of them were as close as brothers and that they pushed and supported each other to become successful. I look at their friendship and I wish that I had the same sort of solidarity with the people in my real life. When stuff like this happens, I realize that I've just been projecting things on BEAST. Junhyung being reckless and selfish like that showed me that my views of the bonds between the members is just a fantasy ;___; Those 6 boys aren't a family. They're essentially co-workers and they all have the same flaws that the rest of us have. I know all this, but I really put a lot of faith in their friendship... Freaking Junhyung D: Thanks to that jackass, I can't listen to BEAST songs now without wanting to cuss him out.
